Fire safety video
We have put together a fire safety video containing important safety information to help prevent a fire in your home and to give you guidance about what to do if a fire breaks out.

Fit a smoke alarm with a British Standard kitemark. Every home should have one. Test it monthly to check batteries are working and run the hoover hose across the vents to clear dust from the sensor. It is advisable to change the battery every year whether it needs it or not.
If you don't have a smoke alarm please contact us.
- Make a fire action plan so that everyone in your house knows how to escape if there is a fire
- check your cooker is off before you go to bed
- make sure the TV and other non-essential electrical equipment are switched off at the socket and never leave 'plug-in' air fresheners unattended
- keep fire exits and escape routes clear
- never leave lit candles unattended and keep them away from curtains, furniture and anything else that can catch fire
- make sure cigarettes have been stubbed out carefully and never smoke in bed.
For communal areas:
- Do not store flammable materials in communal areas
- keep fire exits and escape routes clear. This could either be a door leading from your home, a balcony walkway or any shared landing or staircase. The hall may be the only way out of your home so make sure there is nothing in the way that might slow you down in an emergency
- be aware of your fire exits
- do not wedge open fire doors.
In the event of a fire:
- Call the fire brigade on 999
- use the stairs, not a lift
- if you are trapped, close the door of your room and use bedding, towels or clothes to block up any gaps under the door that might let in smoke or fumes
- shout 'FIRE' from the window to attract attention and tell people to call the fire brigade.
Did you know?
- 60% of fires start in the kitchen so take care while cooking
- half of all deaths from domestic fires happen between 10pm and 8am. Take special care when you are tired or when you are under the influence of alcohol.
