How to get involved

We want to make sure you are consulted about issues that affect the area in which you live in. We want to involve you in decisions that affect you and your neighbourhood.

We want to know about the things that really interest you and involve you in a way that suits you. By achieving this, we hope to get more of our residents involved in the work that we do.

There are many ways that you can get involved with us:

If I get involved how much time will it take?

Different levels of involvement will take different amounts of time depending on what you become involved in. Involvement can range from a 5 minute telephone call to a full day meeting. It can be a one-off, or you could get involved on a
regular basis. That choice is up to you.

Will I get paid?

There is no payment for volunteers to become involved. But all residents who get involved receive a £20 flat rate payment to cover all out of pocket expenses. BHP will also help with childcare costs.

I've never done anything like this before. Do I need training?

We are interested in hearing residents' views and suggestions. We are particularly keen to hear from black and minority ethnic residents and young people who are currently under-represented. Support and free training is available, and there will always be someone here to help.

Why should I get involved?

By getting involved you will:

  • make your area a better place to live
  • develop your own skills
  • influence decisions that affect the housing service
  • give us views on the services you receive
  • help us to provide better quality services
  • be part of a group with neighbours and BHP officers and
  • get better resident satisfaction because you will have a say in how services are delivered.
