07/03/07 : Crack house closed & tenant evicted in Wembley

Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) - the company that manages council housing in Brent - has served an eviction notice on a tenant who has been using his property as a crack house.

Brent Police - in consultation with Brent Council and BHP - also served a closure notice at the property in Roskild Court, Dagmar Avenue, Wembley, following reports of anti social behaviour and the dealing of class A drugs.

BHP anti social behaviour officers and the neighbourhood wardens have been collecting evidence on the anti social activities taking place at the property.

Brent Police, Brent Council and BHP worked together to take action after receiving a number of complaints from residents regarding noise nuisance, drug taking, heavy foot traffic and rubbish (including drug paraphernalia) being dumped in the communal hallway.

The property will be closed for three months and the resident placed in temporary accommodation.

BHP Managing Director, Helen Evans, said: "BHP will not tolerate anti social behaviour and is committed to taking every possible step to rule it out. Our neighbourhood wardens regularly patrol estates and can also be called out to help deal with issues such as noise nuisance. They were often called to deal with the anti social behaviour at this property and were able to collect evidence to pass to the police."

Sergeant Liam Tierney, Tokyngton Safer Neighbourhoods, said: "This address has been closed down as it was causing much aggravation to the local residents. I would like to thank the public that took the time to come forward and let us know what was happening. As a result of their efforts we have been able to completely remove the problem and give some peace and quiet back to the area."

Brent's Lead Member for Crime Prevention and Public Safety, Councillor Valerie Brown, said: "Nobody should have to tolerate this on their doorstep. These sorts of places generate anti-social behaviour which can blight neighbourhoods and communities.

"Brent Council takes this issue very seriously and will take action with our partners in the police and Brent Housing Partnership to close these places down."

In the last year BHP has worked with its partners to evict four tenants for anti social behaviour, issued five anti social behaviour injunctions, shut down four crack houses, issued two dispersal notices and arranged for four acceptable behaviour contracts to be signed.

BHP tenants and leaseholders concerned about anti social behaviour can contact the Neighbourhood Wardens between 3 pm and 3 am seven days a week including holidays on 020 8451 5050.

Brent residents can also contact the police's Safer Neighbourhood Team on 020 7372 1212.
