Taking a stand against anti social behaviour - Neighbourhood Champion awards
Brent Housing Partnership is launching its second Neighbourhood Champion awards for residents who take a stand against anti social behaviour.
Residents who live on the St Raphael's Estate, Mitchellbrook or Brentfield - and take a stand against anti social behaviour - could win £50 in vouchers and a trophy if nominated by their neighbours.
The competition is for an individual or group of residents who have tackled anti social behaviour where they live. Perhaps they have stood up to bullies, been a witness to anti social behaviour and given evidence in court or set up a group to deal with noise or neighbour problems.
Neighbourhood champions who have tackled environmental anti social behaviour such as graffiti, vandalism or litter can also apply for the award.
And nominations are encouraged from residents who engage young people in positive activities where they live.
Last year, a survivor of domestic violence who now supports victims of crime, a resident who helps his Somali neighbours report crime and a neighbourhood watch coordinator were all presented with cheques and plaques.
Sandra Royer, Director of Housing Management, said: "The awards are designed to make all residents aware that there is support in the community and action can be taken against anti social behaviour."
The awards are organised by the Safer Streets Project which is jointly funded by Brent Council's Neighbourhood Renewal Project and Brent Housing Partnership.
All nominations should be received by March 27th 2007.
