15/11/06 : Much loved neighbourly council tenant wins award

A neighbourly resident - who "tirelessly gives up times for others" - will be presented with a community achievers award at the Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) open day tomorrow (16th).

Council tenant, Molly Ormonde, of Willesden Green, who lives in a property managed by BHP, was nominated by her neighbour Kathy Wallace.

Kathy said: "When I moved here seven years ago the first person to greet me was Molly. She offered me her parking space until I had the chance to sort out my own. She is always looking out for her neighbours and doing things for them.

"She is tireless in the time she gives - nothing is too much trouble for Molly. The main thing is she does it with such great humour and fun."

Molly will be presented with her trophy and vouchers for £250 at the Open House event. Eight runners up will also be presented with a trophy at the fun day.

Helen Evans, managing director, said: "I've heard so much about Molly: how she is always there for people and a much loved resident. Like many of our residents she gives much of her time and effort in making her neighbourhoods a better place to live.

"Each of the award winners have demonstrated that it is possible to make a difference where they live whether it's organising social events or setting up after schools clubs."

BHP, the organisation that looks after thousands of council homes in Brent, has invited all 13,000 of its residents to meet directors, staff and enjoy a fun filled afternoon.

The day promises to be jam packed with entertainment for all ages from war time sing a longs to steel bands and dancers. There's also free beauty therapy, massages and yoga for all residents. There will also be lots of exciting children's entertainment, music, performances and large selection of free hot and cold food.

Helen said: "By opening our doors to residents we can learn more about how we can improve services to them. For the first time residents will have access to all services under one roof at the same time."

Tenants and leaseholders will be able to find out how they can become more involved in the running of their estates, learn about improvements to their homes through the BHP major works programme as well as report repairs and find out about what benefits they are entitled to.

The event runs from 2 pm - 7 pm.
