08/11/06 : Putting residents at the heart of services

The resident's compact - a three way agreement between Brent Housing Partnership (BHP), Brent Council, and council tenants and leaseholders - will be signed at an event in November (16th).

The compact outlines the council and BHP's commitments to its residents and details how residents can become more involved in the running of their homes and neighbourhoods.

BHP chair, Kathy Ellison, said: "We want to encourage all BHP residents to get involved: it does make a difference and we are listening.

"Giving residents a voice helps us improve services so our homes and neighbourhoods are places we are proud of."

BHP puts resident involvement at the heart of all its services and a third of its board members are residents. Tenants and leaseholders can also have their say on everything from deciding which contractors to use to the content of resident newsletters.

BHP has a team dedicated to supporting tenants and helping them have their say. This resident involvement team can also give advice and financial support to resident associations, organise community events and forums for residents to come together.

Kathy will be signing the resident compact along with Brent Council's lead member for housing, James Allie, and Kilburn resident, Pauline Fell, at the BHP Open day at 6 pm.
