How we help the community
Tenant and resident association meetings
In addition to interacting with larger organisations, one of the main groups are the residents themselves, therefore it is important for wardens to establish close and constant communication.
One method of interaction is via attendance at resident meetings such as the St Raphael's residents association, the area housing board and the neighbourhood forum.
One of the main priorities of the wardens is to reassure the community through their physical presence, ultimately encouraging a sense of belonging and security.
School patrols
Wardens have carried out school patrols at St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary school and Kilburn Park school.
The main reason for the wardens' presence was to deter drug dealers and other anti-social behaviour as well as assisting with road safety and raising road safety awareness.
Youth activities
Brent Housing Partnership arranged Tae Kwon do, football and sports hall games.
In line with programmes such as the Respect programme, Every Child Matters and Youth Matters, we gave young people opportunities to develop and make a positive contribution through participating and competing in sport which will enhance their motor skills, leadership, communication and general social skills.
The sessions had a positive impact in providing a hook to engage those most at risk of anti-social behaviour and since youth nuisance is perceived to be a problem in many areas, wardens helped to publicise activities by distributing leaflets.
'Signpost' service
The wardens have located and identified homeless people, drinkers etc and have directed them to the services that are available within the borough.
The wardens listen to the needs of local residents, provide reassurance and act as a link to other service providers.
The wardens have provided information on education, training and employment opportunities.
