Applying for a transfer
If you want to move to another council home within Brent, you can do this through either a transfer request.
You can apply for a transfer by completing an application form available from your housing officer or by downloading one online from Brent Council's Housing Resource Centre website.
Refusing an offer
If you refuse a transfer offer without good reason you will normally have to wait before being considered for another offer.
Mutual exchange
All secure tenants have a legal right to swap homes with another tenant either within the same borough or elsewhere in the country.
In order to be eligible for a mutual exchange:
- you must be a secure tenant which means the council has not obtained an immediate possession order against you, or that you have not breached a suspended possession order
- you must not have any rent arrears
- the size of property of both parties willing to exchange must meet the needs of the family
- no money or gifts have exchanged hands.
Application forms for mutual exchanges are available from your housing officer.
On receipt of your completed applications, Brent Housing Partnership will inform you of its decision within 42 days.
The respective landlords of both tenants must authorise the exchange, or the exchange may be considered illegal, with both parties being required to return to their original homes.
Seaside and country homes
Escape from the city?
London is not always ideal for everyone. Even people who have grown up in the capital seek an alternative from the fast pace of city life as they approach retirement. Brent Council is working with Seaside and Country Homes to help you find a home outside London in the country or on the coast.
