Summit Court Housing Estate in Cricklewood received a substantial makeover by Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) who manages the estate which has 56 properties.
This new look was officially unveiled in a celebration on the communal area of estate at the end of July which residents and their children attended. There was plenty of food and drink as well as a raffle draw; the top prize was a state of the art digital radio.
The transformation included external renovations including painting of the block, new double glazed windows, which have totally transformed the look of the estate and reinstated a feeling of community spirit.
Residents were involved in the whole process as they were consulted on all aspects of the refurbishments such as the colour of paint they preferred, type of flooring to the communal areas and other aspects of works. Residents felt empowered to make decisions and there was a feeling of pride amongst them as they celebrated the end product.
Other external renovations included double glazing for communal areas, reroofing of both the low and high rise blocks, redecoration of the community centre, redecorating communal areas and balconies, replacement of balcony panels, replacement of all signage, painting of garages and environmental works such as repairs to the paving and replacement of the washing line.
Resident Mrs Jean Thomas said: "The new look is a big improvement. The landings are very smart and the paint looks good. The work was carried out well and I'm extremely pleased with the way the workmen conducted themselves; they were always very nice and courteous."
Gerry Doherty, Chief Executive of BHP said: "At BHP, we are committed to creating homes that people are proud of and want to live in. I am pleased to see residents so happy with the new look and enjoying their homes."
