06/08/2010 : BHP building new family homes in Wembley

Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) announced the development of three new build family homes in Aldbury Avenue, Wembley. This is the first time BHP, an ALMO, will build and manage its own properties.

The construction site originally housed garages which had become under used and derelict over a number of years.  It then started to be used for the dumping of unwanted household items such as fridges and freezers. It is now being transformed into three bedroom family homes and will provide essential accommodation for residents in Brent.

The homes will be completed by November and families who are to be nominated by the council, will be in their new homes by Christmas.

BHP and Brent Council have worked in partnership on this project. The land was transferred to BHP by the council at nil value as they are keen to tackle the severe affordable housing shortage in the borough.

Councillor Ann John, Leader of the Council said: "I am very impressed with BHP's work on this site. Building new homes is absolutely critical. There are not enough homes at affordable rent, and anywhere we can build new homes for families we'll do it. We are aiming to get families into their new homes before Christmas which will be an amazing Christmas present."

Councillor Bobby Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Customer Services said: "This is an excellent start for BHP in terms of building their own homes and being innovative. These three family homes will be much needed resources to people on our waiting list. On behalf of the council I am very grateful for BHP's involvement."

Gerry Doherty, Chief Executive of BHP said: "This is an exciting project for BHP as it's the first time we are building as well as managing our own homes. We have been involved in the whole process from start to finish and we hope it will be the first of many. We will be looking at further opportunities to work with the council to undertake more developments in the borough.
