Residents Celebrate Completion of Brent Housing Partnership's First Green Estate
Thursday 29th July was a day to remember on the Brentfield Estate as Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) hosted a "party on the green"' for residents, local councillors, contractors and staff to celebrate the completion of BHP's "First Green Estate".

This groundbreaking project commenced in August 2009 and addressed a number of emergency efficiency measures that not only contribute to the climate change agenda but also reduces fuel costs for residents. The works included installing solar panels, external cladding to 114 homes which were designed to keep residents warm and aluminium double glazed windows and doors.
The priority for the works was 114 non traditional constructed homes, poorly insulated and suffered from damp. Residents were involved and consulted on the entire process.
Cllr Ann John (leader of the Council and councillor for the Stonebridge Ward) attended the celebration and said: "I have served as a councillor in this ward for twenty years and the changes I have seen with the Brentfield Estate makes me very proud. This project is a shining example for Brent, these homes have really improved and you can clearly see the changes. The Estate is green, energy efficient and the residents are extremely happy. I would like to congratulate BHP for making the bold decision to implement this project."
Mrs Mariam Shah, Resident of Brentfield Estate said:"I am very pleased with the work; there has been a great deal of improvement. Before my home was very cold, we had gaps under the doors and I used to stuff them to trap in the heat. This has completely changed now and my home is so much warmer. I feel that the works have also created a sense of community and everyone has a more positive outlook now and are happier. I am also proud that my home is environmentally friendly and I am part of such a beneficial project."
Gerry Doherty, Chief Executive of BHP said: "I am very proud of the work on the Brentfield Estate. The main aim of the project has been to improve the quality of life for residents and to positively impact the environment. We have achieved both our main goals as residents are happier, they have saved money on their energy bills and we have provided substantial reductions in CO2 emissions. This event is very special because it marks the completion of this successful project, and gives me the opportunity to meet so many residents who have uplifting stories to tell."
The Brentfield Estate has so far been shortlisted for two national housing awards including the Inside Housing Sustainable Housing Awards and the Association for Public Service Excellence.
