16/02/2010 : Meet your neighbour day

Brent Housing Partnership's (BHP) hosted a "Meet Your Neighbour Day" for residents of its Granville New Homes groundbreaking development, on Saturday 30th January at the Tabot Centre, Kilburn.

The Tabot Centre is a community facility which serves as a focal point of the development. This was the perfect venue for neighbours to meet each other in an informal and relaxed environment over some food, tea and coffee.

Several activities were organised throughout the day including a "happy and sad wall" where residents were invited to place comments on what they felt was good and what could be improved in their new homes. A quiz was also organised to find out how much residents knew about their area and housing estate.

The housing team for Granville were available for the whole day for residents to give comments, suggestions and ask questions. BHP's neighbourhood wardens attended and spoke to people about their role and community safety.

As it was a family day, there were many activities for children to enjoy such as face painting, badge making and playing on the bouncy castle.

The event was received well by residents and BHP plan to hold another event in the summer to build on its success.

Resident of Granville New Homes, Mrs Araujo said: "I enjoyed the day very much; it was good to meet my neighbours. My three children had a brilliant time; they took part in the badge-making, face painting and played with other children from the estate. We all feel much happier and less isolated now."

Sonia Dalphinis, Manager of the Granville New Homes Team said:
"It was a fantastic day where residents took time out from their busy schedules to meet one another and make friends. We also wanted residents to be aware of the services available for them in their local area and to meet us their housing team and other community providers in South Kilburn. At BHP, we are committed to community cohesion and want residents to feel proud and part of where they live- this day was a step to achieving this goal."
