Stephanie Barrett, Brent Housing Partnership's resident and recently awarded Neighbourhood Champion, was the brainchild behind a successful day promoting unity and community cohesion in South Kilburn. The "Unity Day" held on Friday 2nd October was organised by a few residents from South Kilburn including Stephanie Barrett, who have formed a group called the Vale Consortium.
There were over a hundred people from the local area and community groups who attended throughout the day. Guests were treated to lively entertainment from Adanta, African dance and theatre group, and an interactive martial arts display from Lin-ton BAP Group.
The Mayor, Councillor Jim O'Sullivan and Councillor Mary Arnold were also in attendance and both spoke about the wonderful work that was being done in the area by the local community groups, and the importance of unity.
Stephanie Barrett said:
"This is an event for all groups in the area including residents, youth and community workers to get together and see what other people are doing. We want to promote unity for everyone and hopefully we can all get together and work for a better community."
