04/08/2009 : Tenants roadshow proves a success

Brent Housing Partnership's (BHP) Chief Executive, Helen Evans, and Chair, Kathy Ellison, launched the first in a series of Tenants' Roadshows that will be taking place across the borough in the next couple of months.

The first event took place at the Preston and Mall Community Centre, and attracted a large number of local residents who were keen to have an audience with Helen and Kathy. This was a unique event to "talk to residents, " tell them about BHP's services and hear what they had to say. There was ample opportunity for questions and answers as tenants raised issues to do with their local area.

Questions raised included issues about helping disabled people with decorating, trees causing a nuisance, overcrowding, transfers, homelessness and other things that were directly affecting tenants in the Preston and Mall locality.

The aim of the Roadshows is to go directly to the tenants in their local areas and enable them to express any concerns that they may have to help BHP to provide an improved service. There will be just under 30 Roadshows in local community centres across Brent. The feedback has been extremely positive and tenants are keen for more events like this to take place.

Mrs Bhardia said: "I felt I could openly talk to Helen and Kathy. They listened and took note of what we were saying. I really appreciated their efforts and I hope something can be done about the issues we have raised."

Lascelles Chambers said: "The event was refreshing. It's good to know other people's views and meet the Chief Executive. It felt that we could have direct contact with the people above. I hope it's a continuous thing."

Mr Hari stated: "It was very useful and good to hear everyone's views and BHP's responses to them. I found it very informative."
